Mother's Day

It has been a long time since I have blogged. It just seems so hard to find the time lately. Mother's Day was nice and eventful for me. Rod gave me my gift a day early which was a massage membership which gives me like 5 prgnancy massages. I had my first one Saturday and wow was I glad he thought of that. It was so nice to relax. Sunday I had to be at church at 8:00, an hour early to practice with the choir since I am the pianist. Then I played for the primary during sacrament. Then I subbed in Primary for the primary pianist who was out of town, but had to step out during Reliefe Society to sing for a lesson that someone had asked me to sing for. It was definately one musical day. Rod made me dinner and lunch though and let me take a nap and relax, so it was nice to have my first official Mother's Day. I am grateful for such a wonderful husband too!

I feel like I amr eally growing now, at least stomach wise. One of my patient's told me today that the old wive's tale is that you gain everywhere if you carry a girl. I don't know if that was her nice way of telling me I am getting fat, or if I am just sensitive as I see my belly swelling more and more each day. Rod is still prestering me to take new photos and post them, maybe I will get brave enough to do that. I am going to have to buy Maternity scrubs pretty soon. My little one is very active and responds to noise. She loves to "dance" when I play the piano or sing and she really responds to her daddy's voice...or any guy's voice that resembles it. Allright, that is all going on in our lives for now.

Put-Put

First off, to start this one let me say thank you to all the moms out there who gave me advice. It is so great to be able to get in touch with my friends and family so easily, although really I should be better about calling right? I also had a chance to speak to my mom for about 2 hours and she went down the list with me, which helped too. It is crazy how many gadgets there are out there. Oh yeah and by the way I think my little girl will be into dancing or music because my calling is pianist for the ward choir and everytime I practice or play in church she starts her aerobics. It is really interesting that they respond to sound at such an early point.

On to the original topic, Rod and I decided to play miniature golf on Friday for date night. We have always argued about what to call it. I have never heard it called put-put until Rod did, but according to my dad that is what he called in growing up ( he is from Texas). Maybe it is a regional thing or maybe I just never found out the right name. Anyway we always have bets on stuff because we tend to be competitive people. So we went to Golfland and the bet was that whoever lost had to pay for the game, this may sound silly but we give ourselves allowances every month. I ended up starting out well, doing not so good in the middle which made my husband happy, then winning on the last two holes.

We went last night and played again with Katie and Steve and Rod thought we would be good as a team since I had beat him the night before. However, we decided to play on a course that had many obstacles, water traps etc. The wager was for shaved ice afterwards. Rod did awesome and scored like 6 hole in ones....but not me, I doubled my score from the night before. It is pretty pathetic when you have to take the maximum (10) on a hole because you know there is no way in heck you will get that ball in the hole after trying a million times. I guess my accuracy at put-put is way off. So we lost and bought shaved ice, but it was worth it when we saw Parker's face later. Steve and Katie let us feed him plain shaved ice with no sugar on it. This was way better than the lemon experience with him. His face was so funny when he realized the temperature shock. For those of you who don't know, Parker is my nephew who is 8 months old. Then he got a glug, which basically is throat freeze and he thought he was dying, he kept trying to spit stuff out, but there was no ice in there his throat was just cold. My poor little girl, we are going to make her do silly things like this too. No wonder people have kids, they are so entertaining.

And It Is......

A girl!! Yay! We are very excited. We actually would have been excited with a boy or a girl. When we went for the ultrasound on Monday my little one was extremely active. It was neat to see her moving like crazy. Rod thought it was pretty neat too. Then, of course she was being stubborn and would not cooperate so they could find out what sex she was. The nurse was really great though, she didn't want to make me come back since Rod was with me. She got me up and gave me cold water and licorice saying the sugar would motivate my baby to move positions and then had me walk up and down the hall for 10 minutes. By the time I went back in the room, sure enough my little girl had moved and we were able to clearly see that we had a little girl. She has remained active for the last couple of days. What an interesting feeling it is to feel a baby moving inside you. We are going to name her Emma Belle ( thanks Amy for the permission, we appreciate it) and can't wait for our new addition.

On to other interesting things about the pregnancy. I have my first cold, which stinks and I am trying my best to stay away from medicine, which is maybe not a smart idea, but maybe you are more paranoid with your first child. I have had one or two tylenol which have helped. Roderick and i went to register last night and someone should have told me how overwhelming that task can be. I can now see that I should have sat down and consulted with other mothers for advice before I took on this task. I just sat there in Target and Babys R US and although we had already made some decisions on the stroller and bassinet, I could not figure out what monitor, pump, or any other basics I needed. I registered for stuff, but now don't really like the stuff I registered for. So you mothers out there, I would love some advice since I am now going to go online and back in the stores and fix my blunder. I mean who knew you could get so stressed about bedding? Needless to say I am sure I will be making many updates to my registries.

I promise to post some pictures of my baby's face, foot, hand etc once Rod scans them in for me. We can't wait for our little girl!!

Kids Say The Darndest Things

My sister came down this week with her kids since they were on break and spent a few days with me. We were swimming with the kids and having a lot of fun especially since it was Parker's ( Katie and Steve's son) first experience in the pool. Everytime I think of this story it makes me smile. My nephew Jared who is 3 in a couple of months and who I share a birthday with was sitting on me in his tube as I swam around backwards and I said, "Look Jared I'm a fish" to which he promptly replied, "No, you a whale" with a huge grin on his face. He then pointed to himself and said " I a whale, you a whale". I started laughing and told my sister that he hit the nail on the head. That is exactly what I feel like right now...it was just funny coming from my innocent nephew who probably had no idea what he was saying. I love this age with kids because they come up with the funniest things to say.

We are going to Bullhead this weekend to see my youngest brother Jordan in his high school musical. He scored the lead role as a sophomore! Way to go! Can you all tell I am a proud older sister? We actually are excited to see it since he is acting opposite my Brother-in-laws niece. So it will be quite the family affair. Then back on Sunday so I can play for the ward choir practice and Rod can teach Sunday School. I am also coming up with an enrichment activity for June. We are doing cake decorating, but anyone have any ideas on a simple skill or project the sisters can learn? Let me know. P.S. Stay tuned for the sex of the new Davies addition. Rod and I find out on Monday!!

Alone Again

Rod is gone again this evening. He has LSAT class until 10:00. Thank goodness he only has three more weeks left and then he studies until he takes the LSAT in June. Good luck to him. He hopes to finish the GMAT too by August so that both of those tests are done before the baby comes. Then applications for Law school and MBA school will keep him busy. We are excited for this next stage in our lives. I do miss having him home in the evenings. It has to be hard for him too since he is gone from the house from 8am until about 1030pm.

I was talking to one of my patients about baby names today. The names Roderick and I have picked are both family names, including the middle names, and they used to be more old fashioned, but have become surprisingly popular. I am sticking to my guns though and even though there may be another little one in my daughter or son's class running around with the same name ( well probably not the boys name) because they are family names we are still going to use them. Stay tuned for the names after we find out what we are having. Here is the first ultrasound we had done at about 7 weeks. My baby was less than an inch long here. Now my baby is bigger than an apple and fully developed as far as having toes, fingers etc. I felt a little flutter in my stomach today and really hoped it was my baby. We shall see. Oh yeah, Rod says this looks like the baby is holding a football. Really the amniotic sac, but can you tell he wants a little boy?

Easter and Life Today

Last weekend we went to Bullhead for Easter which was really fun. I always love seeing the nieces and nephews coloring easter eggs. Parker was the funniest this year because he managed to come out with a green hand. Jared won the prize a couple years ago for throwing the Easter eggs into the dye which caused quite a splash if you can imagine. Thank goodness for stripping kids down to their diapers. And next year my little one will be in on it, and if Easter falls in April this time my little one will be about 7 months old. We will see if he/she ( since we still won't find out for a couple weeks) can keep up with the cousins. I could have found out what I am having this week, but my Dr urged me to wait until a little later so the ultrasound would be more accurate although I am seriously questioning my judgement in scheduling my ultrasound around 20 weeks. I really want to know!! But alas I must be patient. My friend did the old wives tale of taking a pendulum and if it swings or goes in a circle thing and thinks I am having a girl. Also accorsing to the speed of your leg hair growth wives tale I am having a girl, but we shall see if all those wives tales hold true or if I am instead having a little boy. Any guesses from anyone?

I am settling into being pregnant. Except for that one moody day I have not had any mood swings. I know no one believes me, but according to my husband this is true. Actually my only problem is these laugh attacks. Instead of uncontrollable crying, I have fits of the giggles and can't stop laughing. Case in point, I was watching Friends on Friday around lunch time and it was the episode where Joey is trying to help Chandler and Monica cover up their relationship and they find Chandler's underwear in Monica's couch and something about the way Joey claimed the underwear to help them out sent me into a fit of giggles right when Rod and his friends walked into the house on their lunch break to play Rock Band. I started giggling so hard I was crying and just couldn't explain to these guys why this was so funny. Then today in church during Sunday school Rod starts writing me these silly notes and he kept getting funnier and funnier. I finally had to leave Sunday School because I was about to lose it. Then he blames me for being irreverent. Maybe he shouldn't egg me on when he knows I have the serious giggle problem right now.

I am really bored right now and not looking forwards to tonight since Rod is gone for his sleep study. I still have a serious issue with sleeping alone in the house. It must be from sharing a room my whole life. I sleep much better with my husband in my bed, but since I kick him and toss so much he always sleeps much better when I am gone. We will probably be the really old people who sleep in twin beds like Lucy and Ricky Ricardo although they weren't really old. Rod keeps threatening to initiate that much sooner than old age, but since we got a King size bed I don't kick him. That may be our saving grace. I can't help it, I am an active sleeper. Anyway, see below for some cute pics of my niece and nephews dying eggs.

Pet Peeves

So maybe it is just because I am pregnant, but I think all of my pet peeves are coming out at once. Like the girl who tries to tell me at work what to eat and not to eat and then asks me how much weight I have gained. Seriously. Or the one who follows you around all day instead of doing her job....okay so I guess mostly my biggest pet peeve is rude people. I mean seriously what made your day so bad that you need to come visit me and be as rude as possible. Case in point, my last patient today has cancelled a million times, then he asks me a question about something dental related in the chair and I start to explain and he promptly tells me, " I don't care", well then why did you ask. Then when I tell him it is important to keep his appointments, he tells me, "I don't care" . I felt like poking him with one of my instruments. Maybe I have been in Scottsdale too long, but I swear people here think that their time is more precious than anybody else's. Then he tells me he needs to be out of there in 30 minutes. Fine, let me run your mouth through the pressure washer. Okay obviously I am cranky today, can you all tell?

On to happier moments...I am going to visit my family next weekend for Easter and can't wait to see allmy cute nieces and nephews dying eggs. This is one of my favorite events every year, especially last year when Jared Amber's youngest was throwing the eggs into the dye. Good thing we had lots of newspapers out. What a fun time of year. I love all holidays, but especially this one because the spring weather is getting so nice. I just can't believe Easter is in March this year. Super early. What is everyone else doing for Easter?

My first blog experience

Halloween in AZ

This is the first picture I could find of us. Really it is Christmas now. Rod and I had fun planning this Halloween party. I even thought it would be a good time to make costumes ( I will think more about that next time).

Europe up till now

We spent a month this summer in Europe and it was so fun!! Then we packed up and moved from Bullhead City to Tempe, AZ. Roderick is enjoying his time finishing his Economics degree at ASU ( although finals stink). I am being a dental hygienist in Scottsdale, which is very fun! I love the people I work with and it keeps me busy. We are getting ready to head up to Utah next week for our Christmas break and can't wait. This blogging stuff is fun!
